At Indigo Acres, we believe the best moments with our Highlands aren't created by expecting a cuddle. They happen when we slow down, meet them where they are, and allow genuine connection to happen naturally.
Our experiences are hands-on, but always animal-led and personally guided. A knowledgeable Indigo Acres handler remains present with you and the Highlands throughout your entire experience. Petting, brushing, scratches, treats, and simply spending time together can all be part of your visit depending on what the Highlands choose that day.
That's why we call them Highland Connections.

A private, guided, and unhurried experience inside the pasture where you can slow down and spend meaningful time alongside our Highlands. Pet, brush, offer scratches, or simply enjoy their company as connection unfolds naturally and always at their pace. As your session comes to an end, you will be able to offer treats outside the gates to send them off with a proper farewell.
No expectations. No forced interactions. Just you, the Highlands, and a little room to breathe.
Highland Hellos at the Fence

Highland Hellos offers a gentle, guided way to experience our Highlands from outside the pasture. Guests can pet, brush, offer treats, and enjoy time alongside the herd from the comfort of the fence line.
This experience can be a wonderful fit for guests who feel more comfortable with a little extra space, younger visitors, those who prefer a more predictable setting, or anyone who isn't ready to step inside the pasture.
Those 12 and under are required to stay outside the fence.

We want Indigo Acres to feel welcoming and accessible to as many guests as possible. For guests who may have difficulty navigating uneven pasture terrain or walking longer distances, we can arrange a Highland Connection in our corral area located closer to parking.
This provides a more accessible way to enjoy meaningful, hands-on time with the Highlands while still maintaining the same guided, animal-led approach as our other experiences.
If you or someone in your group has mobility or accessibility needs, simply let us know when booking so we can prepare the space for your visit.
Before you visit
Come comfortable. Come prepared. We'll take care of the rest.
Indigo Acres is an outdoor experience, so dress for Nebraska weather and expect a little grass, dirt, mud, and uneven terrain along the way.
Solid-structured, closed-toe shoes are required for all guests entering the pasture and strongly recommended if outside the pasture. Guests arriving without appropriate footwear will need to remain outside the pasture for their visit.
Depending on the season, we also encourage you to bring sunscreen, a hat, water, and insect repellent. Our pasture currently has limited shade, and because we do not routinely spray the areas where our Highlands graze, mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and other insects are part of the natural farm environment.
Sessions may occasionally need to be adjusted or rescheduled when weather conditions aren't safe or comfortable for our guests or Highlands.

Wally is the quiet heart of Indigo Acres. With his soft eyes, fluffy coat, and calm demeanor, he has a way of making visitors instantly feel at ease. He loves a good brushing or scratch and is often perfectly content simply standing nearby and enjoying your company.

The Mother Hen
Willow is our sweet, watchful girl and the unofficial caretaker of the herd. She's gentle, affectionate, and always seems to know what everyone else is doing. Her calm presence and loving personality have a way of making people feel right at home.

Those little calves grew up.
If you've followed Indigo Acres for a while, you may remember Wally, Willow, and Walter looking a lot like this. They're still fluffy. They're still ridiculously adorable. But they're also cows.
Even our smaller Highlands are strong animals with horns, individual personalities, and boundaries of their own. And they can be much bigger in person than photos make them appear.
That's one of the reasons you'll hear us talk a lot about connection rather than cuddling. At Indigo Acres, we don't allow guests to sit or lie on the ground with our Highlands. Instead, we create opportunities to interact with them safely through brushing, petting, scratches, treats, and simply spending time together, always at their pace.
